The impact of Western Disturbance is going to be seen twice in Punjab this week. The first of these has become active today due to which rain alert has been issued in 4 districts of Punjab. The second western disturbance will hit Punjab on 13 April. Due to which the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert.
According to the information given by the Meteorological Department, rain alert has been issued in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar and Tarn Taran. Light rain was seen at some places in Amritsar and Gurdaspur in the morning. Due to this there is likely to be a slight drop in the minimum temperature of the day.
According to the Meteorological Department, if the 5-turn disturbance continues to be active like this, then Punjab will not see much impact of heat wave this year as weel. Last year in 2023, due to Western Disturbance in the months of April and May, more rainfall was seen than normal giving some respite from the heatwave, however making things difficult for the farmers of the state.
In April 2023, the state received 26.1 mm rainfall against the normal rainfall of 14.4 millimeters (mm) which is around 81% more than normal. According to the data received from the Meteorological Department, the year before last, in April 2015, there was 29.8 mm rainfall, which was 138 percent more than the normal. Due to Western Disturbance, good rains are expected this year too.
Orange alert on 13-14
The second Western Disturbance is reportedly becoming active in Punjab from April 13. The Met Department say that the effect of this disturbance. Rain alert has been issued in most areas of Punjab on 13th and 14th. The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert regarding rain and strong winds. After which a slight drop in temperature will also be seen.

Amritsar - Today is expected to be partly cloudy. There may be light rain. Values are expected to be around 18 to 35 degrees.
Jalandhar - Partly cloudy. The temperature is expected to be around 19 to 35 degrees.
Ludhiana - The sky will be clear. The temperature is expected to be between 18 to 35 degrees.
Mohali - The sky will be clear. An increase in temperature will be seen. The temperature is expected to be between 21 to 36 degrees.
Patiala - The sky will be clear. The day temperature is expected to be between 18 to 36 degrees.
