Americans went into shock after Tory Lanez's sentencing for shooting and injuring pop-star star Megan Thee Stallion was delayed once again on Thursday. As per reports, Tory Lanez's sentencing will be done on August 7, 2023 after Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Herriford accepted the defense’s request to delay it. Notably, the prosecutors are seeking a 13-year prison sentence and Lanez also faces deportation to his native Canada. Now, the question arises what did Tory Lanez do and why did he do it? To know the answer continue reading below-
What did Tory Lanez do?
The Canadian rapper Tory Lanez was convicted of three felonies- assault with a semiautomatic firearm on Megan Thee Stallion, having a loaded & unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
The latest delay marks it for the third time in sentencing for Lanez. He’s been behind bars without bail since his conviction back in December. He faces a max sentence of 22 years, eight months, and possible deportation back to his home country of Canada. Here’s hoping that by the time August rolls around, the “Lavender Sunflower” rapper will finally face the consequences that he so rightly deserves.
According to legal affairs journalist Meghann Cuniff, Judge Herriford pushed back sentencing for Lanez until August 7. This decision was made in order to allow his team more time to prepare to address the aggravating factors the prosecutorial team have argued against him as their reasoning for the prison recommendation sentence of 13 years. In particular, the judge wants Lanez’s team to “address the aggravating factors of great bodily harm and use of a firearm, which prosecutors want Herriford to factor into Lanez’s sentence.”
When asked if Thee Stallion would be present at the August 7 date, Deputy District Attorney Alex Bott said: “We’re still working out the details there. We look forward to having this matter adjudicated on the 7th. I know Megan’s really wanting to see this thing, this chapter closed in her life. We just appreciate her being as strong as she is, and this is going to be over very soon.”

Herriford decided to give Lanez’s lawyers more time to prepare their sentencing recommendation, which is due on August 1. The judge, who will sentence Lanez, denied a motion from Lanez’ defense attorneys for a new trial on May 9.
During the brief court hearing, Lanez mostly kept his head down and barely made eye contact with anyone. He wore an orange jail outfit and black cap.
Attorneys for Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, argued that there was insufficient evidence to convict him, and some of the evidence presented to jurors should not have been allowed.
Lanez began releasing mixtapes in 2009 and saw a steady rise in popularity, moving on to major-label albums. His last two reached the top 10 on Billboard’s charts.
Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, testified during the trial that Lanez fired a handgun at the back of her feet and shouted for her to dance as she walked away from an SUV in which they had been riding in the Hollywood Hills in the summer of 2020. She said the two had gotten into a dispute that became especially heated when she started insulting his music. After the incident, she needed surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet.
