In a heartbreaking development, an Olympic hopeful canoeist Bogdan Saliwon died on November 1. Bogdan Saliwon was only 16 years old when he died during a practice session at the Kamyyansk reservoir in Ukraine. Bogdan Saliwon was considered one of Ukraine's top prospects and he reportedly dreamed of winning gold at the Olympics. What happened to Bogdan Saliwon?
As per reports, Bogdan Saliwon and his four friends were practicing at the Kamyyansk reservoir in Ukraine on November 1. Bodgand and his friends were heading back to shore when a bolt of lightening hit the teenager and he fell into the water. Thereafter, a huge search operation was carried out by the authorities. During the search operation, Bodgan's body was found in the lake and police believe he died as a result of drowning. Hence, Bogdan Saliwon's cause of death is drowning after being struck by lightening.
Reportedly, Bogdan Saliwon was among the athletes in the making in Ukraine. The 16-year-old had already won several national competitions and was part of the country's youth canoeing team. Notably, Ukraine won a silver and bronze medal in the sport at the last Games in 2021.
Following Bogdan Saliwon's death, Ukraine Police have now reportedly launched an investigation into whether the group's training session was left unsupervised.
