From the creators of Dark, 1899 released on Netflix on 17th November 2022. The show post its release garnered positive reviews from critics as well as audiences and made them inquisitive to find out what the further seasons will bring to them after the mind-boggling first season. For all the viewers waiting for the announcement of next season of 1899, Netflix has decided to cancel the show for further seasons. Till now the makers as well as Netflix have not announced the reason for cancelling 1899 but audiences are surely disappointed.
Co-showrunners and executive producers bo Odar and Friese took to their Instagram to express their disappointment of cancelling of 1899. The wrote, “With a heavy heart, we have to tell you that '1899' will not be renewed. We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with a 2nd and 3rd season as we did with 'Dark'. But sometimes things don't turn out the way you planned. That's life.”
The series 1899 is based on the famous journey of a group of European migrants to America in the early 1900s. It portrays European emigrants travelling from, UK on a steamship named Kerberos to start their new lives in New York City. The story shows numerous passengers on this ship, as these passengers come from different parts of Europe. They are all hoping to get to America in the hopes of starting a new future there. But the thing is that all of these passengers have their own specific reasons for wanting to escape the Old World.
People have also expressed their disappointment over Netflix cancelling 1899 after premiere of the first season. One person wrote, “This is such disappointing news. Honestly, what is even the point of investing time into Netflix originals when they never make it past the first or second season?”
While other wrote, “Just another reason I cancelled my subscription. I mean come on trying to inflate your sub count by forcing families not to share, and then doing this crap all the time? I'm over Netflix.”
