Online payment apps Google Pay or Paytm are still the most used applications for making online payments, meanwhile, WhatsApp Payment is yet to pick up pace in the country.
The Facebook-owned company is set to roll out a cashback scheme to gain more takers for its payment service in India. It is said to launch a cashback feature for the users who often use Payments online.
As the name suggests, the feature offers cashback to users on UPI transactions via WhatsApp Payments. This feature will be rolled out to Android and iOS beta users both.
The cashback feature will be rolling out the feature for only certain beta testers only and not all the users who are using payments will get cashback, reported Tracker WABetaInfo.
It is yet not clear when this feature will be mainly rolled out for all the users on WhatsApp. WhatsApp will pay its users Rs 51 cashback for generating payments through the messaging app.
This cashback option was discovered in WhatsApp Android beta version 2.21.20.3. According to reports, the app reveals a “Give cash, get Rs 51 back" banner.
The cashback offer was first detected by an Indian follower Vipin who had got a certain amount of cashback after the user sent payments to five contacts, reported WABetaInfo. The user received a total of Rs 255 worth of cashback across all five, accounting for Rs 51 cashback per payment.
The screenshot shows a notification from WhatsApp congratulating the user for receiving the cashback. This may likely be a limited promotional offer to encourage WhatsApp users to try in-app payments, the tracker noted, claiming that the feature might get stopped in the future. Once the cashback is received by the users, the details of the transaction are made available on the History page within the WhatsApp Payments Settings, informed WABetaInfo.
According to reports, one cannot turn on the WhatsApp Payments cashback feature if the WhatsApp account is not part of the promotional activity as the feature tracker mentions that the feature is enabled for selected beta testers only. WhatsApp has not issued any selection criteria as to which WhatsApp users are selected to test the feature.

The chances of being a part of the cashback feature increase if you have the latest version of WhatsApp Beta for Android on the Play Store and iOS on TestFlight. WhatsApp beta for Android 2.21.22.21 and WhatsApp beta for iOS 2.21.220.14 is believed to be compatible updates, but users might get the feature on previous updates also.
The cashback amount is said to be Rs 51 as long as the transaction is worth Re 1 or above, according to reports. To onboard more users to the payments feature, WhatsApp collaborated with five Indian women artists to design a new set of stickers for its users in India. These stickers are themed on different cultural expressions related to the exchange of money.
