Apple’s annual WWDC event in June brought exciting announcements, including the preview of iOS 17 and the unveiling of the new virtual reality headset. iPhone owners are eagerly anticipating the iOS 17 release date and compatibility details.
iOS 17 is set to deliver highly requested features, such as new contact posters, improved lock screen controls, and a “stand-by” mode that transforms any phone into a smart display. These were among the highlights showcased at WWDC.
While the developer beta of iOS 17 is already available, the general release is expected in September, following the pattern of previous years. Unfortunately, the iOS 17 preview is just a glimpse of what’s to come.
Here are the expected compatibility details for iOS 17:
Compatible iPhone models:
• iPhone 14 (All Models)
• iPhone 13 (All Models)
• iPhone 12 (All Models)

• iPhone 11 (All Models)
• iPhone XS and XS Max
• iPhone SE (2020, 2022)
These devices are also compatible with iOS 16 and will likely support iOS 17. However, Apple has confirmed that the aging iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X will not receive iOS 17 support. They join the original iPhone SE, iPhone 6, and iPhone 7 in missing out on Apple’s annual update cycle.
As for the new features, the current beta version provides a glimpse into the changes. Notable additions include customizable contact posters, revamped lock screens, live voicemail mode for call screening, FaceTime video messages, advanced messaging features like search filters and message transcriptions, the introduction of Stickers for expressive communication, and improvements to Airdrop, SharePlay, dictation, and a new Journal app.
While the iOS 17 beta is available for developers and testers since July 12th, the official release is expected in September. This update will support a wide range of iPhones and bring a host of exciting features to users.
