Former India veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni is counted among the most patient and cunning captains in the world. He retired from international cricket last year, but is leading the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL as skipper.
Dhoni was appointed as the captain of Team India for the first time in 2007. India won the first T20 World Cup at that time. India defeated Pakistan in the final.
But just before the title match, Dhoni lied in the media about the explosive opener Virender Sehwag.
Actually, Sehwag was unfit just before the final. Dhoni did not even say in the press conference before the match that Sehwag would not be a part of Playing-11. He was playing the Mindgame with the opposition team. Sehwag had revealed this in an interview given to actor AparshaktiKhurana in the show ‘Cricket Diaries’ of the ‘VU India’ YouTube channel.Irfan Pathan and RP Singh (Rudra Pratap Singh) were also present there at the time of Interview. Sehwag said, "I was very sad. It was the moment that hardly any player wants to miss."
Sehwag further said, "I tried my best. I continuously tried myself and applied ice pack for atleast 48 hours. After every half an hour, I was constantly applying ise pack on my injury. I wanted to get ready for the match. I took injection also. But even after this, I was still feeling pain.I still felt pain when I tried running. The rule was that if you have been injured before and are playing the match, then you cannot get an extra fielder or runner, if you feel pain during the match. Sehwag further said, "Despite the injury, ” It would have been selfish to play the World Cup for myself and not for the team. Then I let Dhoni know that I cannot play. It was only then that Yusuf Pathan got the chance”.
