In a massive development, Pakistan underworld don Ameer Balaj Tipu on Sunday was shot dead by an unidentified man during a wedding procession in Lahore. Ameer Balaj Tipu who is counted among the top faces of Lahore's underworld network was shot dead during a wedding ceremony in the Chung area. As per Pakistani media reports, the gunman opened fire at Ameer Balaj Tipu, and during the attack three other guests were injured. Now, multiple Ameer Balaj Tipu firing videos are doing rounds on social media in which many people can be seen firing their guns. Notably, Ameer Balaj Tipu's armed associates swiftly retaliated by shooting dead the unknown attacker, but despite best efforts, the Lahore underworld don could not be saved and he succumbed to his injuries at the Jinnah hospital. Who was Ameer Balaj Tipu?
Apart from being a top underworld don of Lahore, Ameer Balaj Tipu was the owner of a goods transport network. As per Pakistani media reports, Ameer Balaj Tipu was infamous for being one of the most feared personalities in Lahore's underworld. Ameer Balaj Tipu's family has a history of violence, as Balaj's grandfather has been embroiled in an age-old feud. Balaj's father Arif Amir, alias Tipu Truckanwala, himself fell victim to a fatal attack in 2010 at the Allama Iqbal airport, and succumbed to injuries sustained during the gunfire. Balaj was considered one of the few dons of Lahore's underworld who had generations of enmity.
Ameer Balaj Tipu was also quite followed by a particular section of Pakistan. Pak media quoted doctors saying that Balaj received four bullet wounds in his chest and died due to excessive bleeding. Balaj is said to have recently joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after quitting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Pakistani Police investigating the shooting are looking Ameer Balaj Tipu's death as a case of personal rivalry between the families involved. Interestingly, the attacker arrived at the wedding fully prepared and even carried 5000 PKR in his pocket to give as a 'shagun'.
The wedding ceremony was for a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), and the attack occurred under the guise of taking a selfie, during the departure phase. Law enforcement authorities are indicating that this incident reflects a resurgence of gang-related tensions in Lahore.
