Pakistan's former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan was shot in both his legs in a firing that took place during his rally in Gujranwala in Pakistan's Punjab province. Apart from Imran Khan, his aides in the rally also suffered injuries in the assassination attempt. Imran Khan was travelling in an open-top vehicle during the rally when a shooter open-fired at him allegedly with an AK-47. Although Imran was shot in the leg, the shooter was nabbed by the crowd present and was later arrested by the Police. As of now, Imran Khan is reportedly shifted to his own hospital- Shaukat Khanum and 4 members medical board has been constituted for him. Now, the question arises, who can be behind Imran Khan's assassination attempt and why the former Pakistan Prime Minister was on the hit list?

Although the shooter has been arrested, the Pakistan Police are currently probing Imran Khan assassination attempt case, the former Prime Minister for the past few months were at loggerheads with Pakistani Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and ISI DG Nadeem Anjum In fact, Imran Khan in one of his rally had called Pakistani army 'an animal' who called themselves neutral. Furthermore, Khan had called ISI Chief 'Mirjafar' (traitor) as well. Imran Khan's verba attack increased on the Pakistani army and the ISI chief had amped up as a result Nadeem Anjum had to address a press conference in which he had turned emotional.

During the press conference, Lt Gen Anjum had said that Army chief Gen Bajwa was given a "lucrative offer" by the then government amidst the political turmoil in March. The unprecedented press conference by the spy chief came as the country was grappling with different versions about the killing of journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya and indirect allegations against the armed forces. Sharif was shot dead at a police checkpoint at an hour's distance from Nairobi on Sunday night, creating a storm in the country. Furthermore, during the press conference, it was alleged that Imran Khan visits the Pakistan army and ISI in the night, but abuse them in the day during the rally.

After this, Imran Khan had threatened the ISI and Pakistan Army Chief to not test his patience level as he can utter ugly truths. "DG ISI, listen carefully, the things I know, I am staying silent for my institutions and the country. I don't want to damage my country..Our criticism is for constructive purposes and for your improvement. I can say more but will not say as it will hurt the institution," Imran Khan had said.

Notably, the tension between Imran Khan and Pakistan's security agency had amped up ever since Shehbaz Sharif won the confidence motion and Imran Khan had tendered his resignation from the Prime Ministerial post. Multiple reports had suggested that Imran Khan was not ready to resign from his post and therefore General Bajwa allegedly slapped him at his residence as well. However, it was neither confirmed by the Pakistani army nor the PTI party.
