In a major rejig in the Punjab Police, the state government on Friday evening transferred 21 IPS officers. The major transfer that was worth attention-grabbing was the change in the Police leadership of Jalandhar. Punjab Government's Home Department IPS Officer Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa is the Commissioner of Police of Jalandhar. Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa on Saturday assumed charge of Jalandhar's new Police Commissioner replacing officer Swapan Sharma who was serving as the top cop before her. Interestingly, Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa IPS is the first female officer to head Jalandhar's Police Commissionerate. Who is Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa?

 For the first time in its history, the Jalandhar police commissionerate will be headed by a woman. A native of Patiala, IPS officer Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa has been given the responsibility by the Bhagwant Mann Government. Since the commissionerate's formation in 2009, 17 police commissioners have been appointed.

Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa, a 2006 batch IPS officer, previously served as the IG of the Ludhiana range.  Her priorities include women's empowerment. She is married to 2006 batch IPS officer Mandeep Singh Randhawa, who is currently posted in Delhi.

As per the information available, Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa's first posting was as an under-training ASP in Ludhiana in 2008. From 2009-2011, she served as ACP/ADCP-1 in Amritsar. She has also served as SSP in Barnala, Nawanshahr, and Kapurthala. After a stint on central deputation, she returned as IG. 

After taking charge as Jalandhar's Police Commissioner, she reiterated the Police's unwavering commitment to providing exceptional service to the residents of Jalandhar.

Talking about former Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, he has been transferred as DIG of the Ferozepur range. Sharma's tenure saw several high-profile police actions.  Speaking to reporters, Sharma credited his success to public cooperation and a media-friendly approach.
