Erica Robin is Pakistan's first-ever model representing the country at the biggest modeling contest in the world. However, in spite of celebrating Erica Robin's success and her step to represent her country in the 2023 Miss Universe, the country has slammed her for taking part in such a competition. Pakistani model at Miss Universe 2023 in fact has sparked a major controversy as the country's Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar asked the country’s intelligence agency to launch an inquiry. Who is Erica Robin?
Hailing from Karachi, Pakistan, Erica Robin is a 24-year-old model who comes from the persecuted Christian community of the Islamic nation. Erica Robin reportedly holds a degree in Business Administration. She began her professional modeling career in January 2022.
Erica Robin was shortlisted for the Miss Universe Pakistan pageant. The pageant was organized at Brenna Kottefaru resort at the Raa Atoll in the Maldives on October 5. The 72nd Miss Universe pageant has been scheduled to be held at the National Gymnasium in Sal Salvador, El Salvador on November 18, 2023.
Notably, after she was shortlisted to represent Pakistan in Miss Universe 2023, the 24-year-old model said that she felt 'blessed' that 'a woman from Pakistan gets the chance to meet and bond with almost 90 stunning delegates from all over the world championing equality, purpose, and sisterhood.'
It is pertinent to mention here that by participating in Miss Universe 2023, Erica Robin looks forward to ending gender bias. In fact, Erica Robin on her Instagram bio wrote, "STOP Gender Bias". Despite continuous persecution of minorities in the Islamic country, Erica in her bio further wrote, "Pakistan is a beautiful country rich in culture, nature and loving people".

It is pertinent to mention here that despite Erica trying to take Pakistan on a global, her country is not happy with her. Pakistan's Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar reportedly asked the country’s intelligence agency to launch an inquiry against the organisers of the event to establish how they were able to organise the pageant without having the country’s approval on Robin’s name, according to reports. Not only this, but Kakar also called the entire event a 'shameful act' and an 'insult and exploitation of women of Pakistan'.
In one of her posts, Erica wrote, "The number One (1) has a significant meaning in my life...I wear One tonight at the preliminary evening gown competition...I come from the 1% minority of my beloved country Pakistan which symbolizes the color white in our flag...I became the 1st ever Miss Universe Pakistan - a huge honor and privilege to stand here and be the voice of my community."
