Kapurthala Maharani Geeta Devi breathed her last at her Delhi residence on Thursday. Maharani Gita Devi was considered to be among the select highly respected women of the country. Her Last rites will be performed on December 30 at the Lodhi Cremation Ground in New Delhi. She reportedly suffered some heart problems on Thursday evening and breathed her last on Thursday night aged 86.
Kapurthala’s Maharani Gita Devi was the mother of Tikka Shatrujit Singh and the wife of Kapurthala Maharaja Brigadier Sukhjit Singh. Tikka Shatrujit Singh pioneered the entry of the international brand Louis Vuitton into India. Maharaja Sukhjit Singh was a soldier who served with the Scinde horse and was awarded the Maha VIr Chakra for his valour in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. She passed away last night as she reported suffering from heart problems in the evening. She was rushed to the hospital but preferred to stay at her residence. Hence she breathed her last at 7:15 PM.
Her last rites will be performed on December 30 at 3 pm at the Lodhi Cremation Ground in New Delhi. She was 86 at the time of her demise.
On her demise, Princess Rajyashri Kumari of Bikaner, Prince Jasdan of Gujarat state, Maharaja of Patiala State Captain Amrinder Singh, Princes and Kings of princely states like Baroda, Jaipur, Jodhpur have all expressed their condolences. The Maharani will always remain in our memories.
