India's first and current Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat was killed in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday afternoon. He was accompanied by 13 others, including
his wife Dr Madhulika Rawat who had been a catalyst in empowering army wives.
Dr Madhulika Rawat has also been killed in the same crash.
According to reports, 14 passengers were on board the aircraft, including Bipin Rawat, his wife, the Defence Assistant, security commandos, and IAF pilots.
Reportedly, the chopper was heading to the Wellington defence establishment.

Dr Madhulika Rawat, wife of Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat was the President of AWWA (Army Wives Welfare Association). She was tasked with the welfare of Army wives, children, and
dependents.
AWWA is one of India's major non-governmental organisations. Madhulika Rawat had participated in a number of welfare programmes and initiatives aimed at helping Veer Naris (Army widows)
and differently-abled children.
Madhulika Rawat was the driving force in empowering Army wives by encouraging women to attend courses in tailoring, knitting, and bag making, as well as beautician courses and making 'Cakes
and Chocolates,' to help them become financially self-sufficient.
Education and personal life
Madhulika Rawat studied in Delhi and received her bachelor's degree in psychology from Delhi University. Aside from AWWA, she was always involved in several social works, particularly
for cancer patients.
The couple- Gen Bipin Rawal and Madhulika Rawat-have two daughters.
