France has been engulfed in yet another riot and the town of Nanterre to the west of Paris and many others have been witnessing unrest after the killing of a 17-year-old teenager named Nahel M. Multiple videos and photos have been going viral on social media for the past three to four days which shows France is currently under total chaos. The streets of France are filled with violent protestors who are settling vehicles ablaze and even looting shops in the country. In fact, France riots have turned so disturbing that more than 600 people were arrested and at least 200 police officers were injured as the government struggled to restore order on a third night of unrest. Amidst the struggle to control the mob, France President Emmanuel Macron recently announced that more police will be deployed. Despite government appeals for calm and assurances that the guilty would be punished, mob violence continued. Smoke from cars and garbage set ablaze continued to billow over the streets of the Paris suburb of Nanterre. Now, the question arises who is Nahel M, and why his killing is burning France down to the ashes? To know the answer continue reading-
Who is Nahel M and why was he killed?
As per French media reports, Nehal M was a 17-year-old teenager who grew up in the town of Nanterre to the west of Paris. Nahel was the only child of his mother. The 17-year-old was working as a takeaway delivery driver and also played rugby league. Talking about Nehal's education, he was enrolled at a college in Suresnes not far from where he lived, to train to be an electrician. Reports further suggest that Nehal was of Algerian descent and was loved by his neighbors in Nanterre where he lived with his mother Mounia and had apparently never known his father. Although Nehal's attendance record at college was poor, he did not have a criminal record. However, he was known to police. Talking about Nehal's love for rugby, he had spent the past three years playing for the Pirates of Nanterre rugby club.
Last Tuesday, Nahel was driving a car with Polland number in the Bus lane at Nanterre (a Suburb of Paris). The Police tried to stop him but he didn't stop as multiple reports say. Therefore, the French Police found him a potential threat and shot him at point blank in his chest.
What's next for France?
Apart from deploying more forces on the streets, French President Macron has also requested parents to keep teenagers at home to quell the rioting that is spreading across France. He has called on parents to prevent their children from participating in the street violence. When things did not come under control, President Macron had a second crisis meeting and observed that social media is playing a big role in triggering riots in the country after the unfortunate death of Nehal M. He said that social media and violent video games popular among the youth are fuelling copycat violence.
