The Vigilance Department is in full swing after the recent incidents in Punjab. The Vigilance Department on Tuesday took action against Punjab's top political figures and former ministers on allegations of corruption. Former Punjab Forest and Wildlife Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot used to take a bribe of Rs.500 for each tree in case of illegal felling of trees. Dharamsot was arrested on Tuesday morning at around 3 AM in a corruption case related to the forest department and remanded in police custody.
Vigilance will investigate the entire tenure of this Forest Minister. Also, the arrest of DFO Gurmanpreet Singh and contractor Harmohinder alias Hami has opened the whole box of corruption. During the interrogation, Vigilance got important information from these two persons. The handwritten diary received from Harmohinder has also revealed many important pieces of information.
Now that Virender Kumar has taken over as the Chief of the Vigilance Department, it is expected that the department will gather solid information in Punjab and take action against corruption. It is only natural that action should be taken on the issue of corruption where the names of senior leaders, former ministers, and leaders are involved.
As far as the Doaba region of Punjab is concerned, the names of three bigwigs are emerging, one in mining, one in the construction of Avedh Colony, and one in government procurement. Similarly, when it comes to the Majha region, the names of some of the leaders are appearing in mining, illegal procurement, and drugs. A big face of Ludhiana who has already been on the radar due to corruption has also come to the fore. And now there is a possibility that the officers or senior leaders who are under the purview of this vigilance department may be dealt with soon.
