With a few days to go for the phase 1 voting in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, almost all political parties have finalised their candidates and things are getting clearer for the people of India. Seeing the on-ground protest of farmers against the BJP, it can be said that the Saffron Party is facing its toughest competition in Punjab. At first, BJP's parley talks with SAD failed in Punjab, after that, multiple incidents came to the fore where the the saffron party candidates faced opposition from the protestors. However, keeping the controversies & resistance aside, all political parties are calculating their permutations and combinations & have fielded their best possible candidates from a particular constituency in Punjab. Amid the election fever, the Jalandhar constituency is witnessing leaders switching their alliances. Until now, four political parties have announced their candidates who will be fighting Lok Sabha Polls from the Jalandhar constituency. Below is who are Jalandhar Lok Sabha candidates-

1) Sushil Rinku
AAP's only Lok Sabha member, Sushil Kumar Rinku, joined the BJP last month. Following that, Sushil Rinku tendered his resignation from the MP post of Jalandhar. After joining the BJP, Sushil Rinku stated that he switched the party only for the development of Jalandhar. Sushil Rinku highlighted that during his short term as Jalandhar MP, he worked to get Vande Bharat's stoppage in the city. Also, it was due to his consistent request to the Central Government, that Jalandhar's Adampur Airport was renovated and flight services started from the city.
2) Pawan Kumar Tinu
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday announced Pawan Kumar Tinu as its Jalandhar Lok Sabha Candidate. Pawan Kumar Tinu, a key Dalit face, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday. Tinu was Shiromani Akali Dal's former chief parliamentary secretary and a two-time MLA.
3) Charanjit Singh Channi
Congress on Monday announced Punjab's former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi as its Jalandhar Lok Sabha candidate 2024. The Congress bet on Channi from the Jalandhar seat despite opposition from Phillaur MLA Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary. A few days ago, Chaudhary even resigned as the party’s chief whip in the Punjab Assembly.
4) Balwinder Kumar
The Bahujan Samaj Party Saturday announced Advocate Balwinder Kumar as its candidate from Jalandhar. Balwinder served as the party's General Secretary. Balwinder Kumar is highly educated in terms of qualifications. He is armed with two PG degrees, one in English and the other in journalism, and also has cleared LLB. Balwinder had even got a government job in the PR department but he reportedly refused it to remain in politics. Notably, in the 2019 LS Polls, Balwinder had finished third.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is yet to announce its candidate for Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Jalandhar.
The Lok Sabha Elections will be conducted in seven phases starting from April 19 to June 1. While the results will be declared on June 4. The Lok Sabha elections in the north Indian state of Punjab will be conducted in a single phase on June 1.
