On Wednesday, 9th October, the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Naval Tata passed away at the age of 86 at Breach Candy Hospital following age-related health conditions.
In 2022, chairman of RPG Enterprises, Harsh Goenka, had shared a post about Jimmy Tata, the younger brother of Ratan Tata. He shared a photo of Jimmy Tata and revealed that Jimmy lives in a 2BHK flat in Colaba, Mumbai. He wrote, “Did you know of Ratan Tata's younger brother Jimmy Tata who lives a quiet reticent life in a humble 2 bhk flat in Colaba, Mumbai! Never interested in business, he was a very good squash player and would beat me every time. Low profile like the Tata group!”
Who is Jimmy Tata?
Jimmy Naval Tata is the younger brother of Ratan Tata. He is 83 years old. He is the son of Naval Tata and Sooni Tata. He has two siblings, Ratan Tata and Noel Tata. After graduating, he stared working in the textile industry owned by Tata sons with Naval Tata. Jimmy left Tata Sons in 1990s.
In an interview, Ratan Tata revealed that he and his younger brother Jimmy faced a lot of difficulties as they got bullied after Naval and Sooni got divorced in 1948.
He said, “I had a happy childhood, but as my brother and I got older, we faced a fair bit of ragging and personal discomfort because of our parents’ divorce, which in those days wasn't as common as it is today. But my grandmother brought us up in every way.”
Ratan's younger brother Jimmy Tata is also unmarried. He serves as a trustee of the Ratan Tata Trust, he took this role after the death of his father Naval Tata in 1989. He reportedly doesn’t have a mobile phone. He likes to stay informed through books and newspapers. He always prefers to stay away from the limelight and media.
Jimmy Tata is the owner of huge wealth as he holds major stakes in various Tata companies, including Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Sons, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Power, Indian Hotels, and Tata Chemicals.
