On Wednesday, 9th October, the Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Naval Tata passed away at the age of 86 at Breach Candy Hospital following age-related health conditions.

Chairman, Tata Sons, N Chandrasekaran shared a heartfelt message in his social media. He wrote, “For the Tata Group, Mr. Tata was more than a chairperson. To me, he was a mentor, guide and friend. He inspired by example. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation, the Tata Group under his stewardship expanded its global footprint while always remaining true to its moral compass.”

“Mr. Tata’s dedication to philanthropy and the development of society has touched the lives of millions. From education to healthcare, his initiatives have left a deep-rooted mark that will benefit generations to come. Reinforcing all of this work was Tata’s genuine humility in every individual interaction,” he further added.

After the death of Ratan Tata, his half-brother Noel Tata is now being considered as the potential heir of the Tata Group. He has been the part of the Tata group since 4 decades.

Who is Noel Tata?

Noel Naval Tata is a 67-years-old Indian-born Irish businessman. He is the chairman of Trent and Tata Investment Corporation, the managing director of Tata International, and the vice chairman of Titan Company and Tata Steel. He is the half-brother of Ratan Tata and Jimmy Tata. He is the son of Naval Tata and Simone Tata. He is an Irish citizen.

He graduated from the University of Sussex and had attended the International Executive Programme at INSEAD business school in France. He married to Aloo Mistry, the daughter of Pallonji Mistry, who was the single largest shareholder in Tata Sons. He has three children Maya, Neville, and Leah Tata.

He started his career at Tata International. In 1999, he became the managing director of the Tata Group’s retail arm Trent which was founded by his mother Simone Tata. Following this, Noel got appointed as the director of Titan Industries and Voltas in 2003.

In the year 2011, Noel’s brother-in-law, Cyrus Mistry was announced as the successor of Ratan Tata but in 2016, he was removed and Ratan Tata took over as the chairman of the Tata Group. In 2022, Noel Tata was appointed as the vice chairman of Tata Steel.
