Lok Sabha elections 2024 is around the corner for which all political parties have started the campaigns in full swing. The voting for 13 Lok Sabha seats of Punjab and the sole seat of Chandigarh will be held on 1st June 2024 in the seventh phase. This year BJP will be contesting for assembly elections all by itself. After 21 years, Bharatiya Janta Party will be fighting in Punjab without any alliance. For the unversed, it was in 1997 that BJP formed an alliance with SAD and till 2019 they contested elections together. Post 2019, this is the first time that BJP and SAD will be contesting solo in the assembly election.
As it is the first time for BJP, the party is doing its best to get some renowned faces to campaign for them. One of the famous actresses who will be seen promoting BJP in Punjab is Priti Sapru. Priti Sapru is a famous actress who has worked in both Punjabi as well as Hindi cinema.
Who is Priti Sapru?
The famous Indian actress, Priti Sapru was born into a Kashmiri family on 24th December 1957. Priti Sapru’s dad was a veteran actor D.K. Sapru which is why they used to live in Mumbai. She studied at St. Joseph convent school till 9th and then followed her passion of acting. Priti Sapru is known to have worked with legendary actors like Sashi Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Rekha and Anita Raj. Actress Priti Sapru has always been a keen follower of PM Modi. She has followed him while he was the candidate of BJP in Gujarat. Apart from this, Sapru is known to have accompanied former Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley during various social works.
On 23rd February 2014, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh invited her to join BJP. She formally joined the party during Fateh Rally which took place in Punjab. The actress is a famous face for people of Punjab which is why BJP has chosen her to campaign in the state.
Till now BJP has announced 12 out of 13 candidates contesting for Lok Sabha Elections 2024. The party is yet to field its candidate from Sri Fategarh Sahib.
