Racheal Kaur, an AirAsia finance manager, has become an internet sensation for her extraordinary idea of travelling to work. She flies from Penang to Kuala Lumpur every morning and back home every night in order to balance work and family.
Who is Racheal Kaur?
Racheal Kaur is an Indian-origin woman in Malaysia. She is an Assistant Manager at AirAsia’s finance operations department. She has two children.
Racheal Kaur explained about her decision to fly to work daily and said “I have two kids, both are growing. My oldest is 12 and my daughter is 11. With them growing I feel that the need for the mother to be around more often. And, with this arrangement I’m able to go home every day and be able to see them at night.”
“The moment I reach home, I get to see my kids. All that exhaustion is just gone. It’s just wonderful,” she added.
As per Racheal Kaur, this daily flight commute is cheaper than living in Kuala Lumpur. Previously, she had considered living alone in Kuala Lumpur and visiting her family only on weekends.
However, due to the high cost of living, 474 dollars (Rs 42,000) per month, she tried to explore alternatives. She found out that travelling by flight will cost her around 316 dollars (Rs 28,000) per month. This made it a more economical choice for her.

Racheal shared about her decision to not work remotely and said, “Being surrounded by people, it’s easier to get a task done. You know, when you’re able to communicate with people face to face.”
“When I’m here, I focus 100% on my job and then when I’m home I can focus 100% with my family,” she added.
