Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah is likely to become the next chairman of International Cricket Council (ICC). Jay Shah has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Greg Barclay. Jay Shah is said to have the backing of 16 out of 15 ICC board members, making his election seem almost assured. But the question arises who is going to replace Jay Shah as BCCI secretary?
Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley has emerged as the strongest candidate to replace Jay Shah as the new BCCI secretary.
Rohan Jaitley is the son of Late Arun Jaitley, who was the former Finance Minister of India and a prominent lawyer. Rohan Jaitley, following his father's steps, is a Lawyer who focuses on the cases before supreme court of India and the Delhi High court. In March 2024, he was appointed as a Central Government Standing Counsel for the Delhi High Court.
Rohan Jaitley, four years back, was elected as the new president of DDCA, a position his father Arun Jaitley held for 14 years, and earlier this year, i.e. in 2023, he was re-elected as the president of DDCA unopposed for the second time in. Delhi’s Arun Jaitley stadium hosted five ODI successful matches last year, under Rohan Jaitley’s Administration, and has successfully organised the inaugural edition of Delhi Premier League this year.
In 2022, Rohan Jaitley faced allegations of sexual assault from a model who approached him for an emcee job during the Indian Premier League (IPL). These allegations have not been proven in court.
Apart from his experience in Cricket administration, Arun Jaitley has a good influence in BCCI, where he once served as Vice-president. This is one of the big reasons behind Rohan Jaitley emerging as a strong candidate for BCCI secretary’s position.
