The medical fraternity and people of India are demanding for justice for brutral rape & murder of a trainee female doctore in the state-run Kolkata's RG KAR medical college. RG KAR medical college is one Kolkata's top hospitals and a female trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered. Based on CCTV footage within the hospital campus, one person identified as Sanjay Roy was taken into custody by the investigation officials of the Kolkata Police. Fumed over the incident, the doctors of India have suspended their work and on Tuesday no OPDs were operational including in the AIIMS. Only emergency services are operational and doctor of India are demanding justice from the State as well as the Central Government. Who is Sanjay Roy?
Sanjay Roy is an accused arrested in rape & murder of a female trainee doctor of Kolkata's RG KAR medical college in its seminar hall. He was arrested last week. As per reports, Sanjay Ro is not an employee of the hospital, however was frequently seen in the campus buildings. Sanjay Roy is a Civic Volunteer with the Kolkata Police and hence he had gained free access to the facility of the hospital.
For the unversed, Civic volunteers are recruited on a contractual basis to assist the Police with various tasks, such as traffic management and disaster response, for which they receive a monthly salary of Rs 12,000. However, they do not enjoy the same benefits as regular police personnel.
Reports further suggest that Sanjay Roy joined the Kolkata Police's Disaster Management Group as a volunteer in 2019. Later, he was transferred to the Police Welfare Cell before being assigned to the police outpost at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Due to this post, Sanjay was granted access to all departments within the hospital.
Police investigation has revealed that Sanjay was also involved in a racket within the hospital that includes extorting money from patients' relatives by promising to secure them a bed. In cases where a bed was not available in the government hospital, he would charge additional fees to find one in a nearby nursing home.
Talking about Sanjay Roy's personal life, reports reveal that he had been married four times. Sanjay faced marital troubles due to his abusive behaviour. Three of his wives left him because of his "misconduct," while his fourth wife passed away from cancer last year. A Kolkata Police official was quoted by a newsportal revealing that Sanjay liked watching "disturbing and violent" adult videos, which was "unnatural".
It is pertinent to mention here that Kolkata Police arrested Sanjay after they found a broken wire from a Bluetooth earphone near the victim’s body in a fourth-floor seminar room.
The heinous crime trook place inside the hospital's seminar hall, where the body of the post-graduate trainee was found on Friday morning. The initial autopsy report indicated severe injuries, with the victim bleeding from her eyes, mouth, and private parts.
