In a shocking move, BJP dropped Kirron Kher from its list of candidates and announced Sanjay Tandon as its candidate for the upcoming polls from Chandigarh. Kirron Kher is an MP from Chandigarh, who had secured victories for the BJP in Chandigarh in both the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, has been replaced by Chandigarh BJP party President, Sanjay Tandon for the upcoming polls.
Who is Sanjay Tandon?
Sanjay Tandon, currently serving as the co-in charge of the Himachal Pradesh BJP, boasts a long-standing association with the BJP in Chandigarh. He was born on 10th September 1963 to Balramji Das Tandon and Brijpal Tandon. He did his schooling from Amritsar till class 8, and used to attend the RSS Shakha since the age of 6. Soon he was chosen as the Mukhya Shikshak of the Abhimanyu Shakha at Amritsar. In 1977 when his father became a minister, the family moved to Chandigarh, and have lived in Chandigarh ever since.
Him along with his wife Priya S. Tandon, have co-authored seven books which contain Inspirational short stories based on the teachings of Bhagwan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. With nearly a decade-long tenure as the city party president, Tandon brings significant experience to his new candidacy.
Sanjay’s father, Balramji Das Tandon, who was the former Deputy CM of Punjab and governor of Chattisgarh. He was Punjab deputy chief minister in the Justice (retd) Gurnam Singh Akali Dal-Jan Sangh ministry in 1969-70 . He also served as a cabinet minister in 1977-79 and in 1997-2002 in the ministries headed by Parkash Singh Badal. Sanjay’s mother Brijpal Tandon, who was also an activist in the freedom movement.
