On Wednesday, 23rd October, the Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has caught and arrested a former MLA Satkar Kaur and her nephew Jaskeerat Singh in drug peddling case.
Satkar Kaur was caught red handed by the police, while she was attempting to peddle 100 grams of heroin near Sunny Enclave in Kharar along with her nephew Jaskeerat Singh.
During the investigation in Satkar’s house, the Punjab police have successfully recovered extra 28 grams heroin from the house of this ex-MLA. The total recovery includes 128 grams, 1.56 lakh cash, some gold ornaments and multiple car registration number plates that bearded Haryana and Delhi numbers. Police also impounded four vehicles including Toyota Fortuner, BMW, Hyundai Verna and Chevrolet.
Satkar was caught red handed while smuggling drugs, in a sting operation conducted by the police. She and her nephew tried to escape from the spot but were unsuccessful.
Who is Satkar Kaur Gehri?
Satkar Kaur Gehri is a 45-years-old, former Congress MLA from Ferozepur Rural. She was elected as the Congress MLA from Ferozepur Rural in 2017 but later on, she had to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the year 2022 after the Congress party expelled her. She was denied the party ticket and expelled by the Congress for anti-party activities following which, she went on to join the BJP. She is married to Jasmail Singh.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had selected Satkar Kaur as the candidate for the reserved seat in the 2012 assembly elections. She had lost to Shiromani Akali Dal’s Joginder Singh Jindu by a margin of 16 votes. During 2017 elections, she had defeated Jindu by over 23,000 votes.
This is not the first time of Satkar getting arrested. Previously, she along with her husband Jasmail Singh, had got arrested in a disproportionate assets (DA) case. She was arrested for illegal mining and was accused of accumulating assets beyond her known sources of income.
During the investigation, her total income from all the sources were Rs 1.65 crore whereas her total expenditure was of Rs 4.49 crore. According to the police, the couple had got arrested after a thorough investigation into a complaint that was received against them.
