During the Nabanna Abhijan protest held on 27th August, many parts of Kolkata and Howrah turned into battlefields due to the clash between the police and the protestors. The police took the help of tear gases and water cannons in order to disperse the protestors that were heading towards the State Secretariat.
Justice Sinha, Judge of the High Court, said, “Had the RG Kar incident not occurred, there would not have been the existence of the Paschim Banga Chhatra Samaj."
"It cannot be said with certainty that it is only at the call of the son of the petitioner there had been such a huge turnout on the public streets/ roads and thoroughfares. The agitators and the protestors were out in the streets seeking justice," Justice Sinha further added.
The Judge of the High Court has restrained the police from taking any action against Sayan Lahiri in connection with the case for which he was arrested or any other case for which he has been or may be registered without the leave of the court.
