In a bizarre development, Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia made a shocking mistake during the IPL 2024 auctions that took place in Dubai on Tuesday. Courtesy of confusion, Preity bid for a wrong and welcomed him to play for Punjab Kings in the 2024 IPL. Now, PBKS's accidental auction video is doing rounds on social media and the owners are being criticized for saying in the open that they did want the player on their team. To be precise, PBKS owners bought an allrounder named Shashank Singh at his base price of INR 20 Lakhs. However, the deal was sealed they found out that they bid on a wrong player, hence the Bollywood actress asked the auctioneer to reverse the deal which was turned down. Now, the question arises who is Shashank Singh accidentally bought by the Punjab Kings (PBKS)?
Who is Shashank Singh?
As per the information available, Shashank is a 31-year-old allrounder who hails from Chattisgarh in the domestic circuit. Notably, the all-rounder has prior experience of playing the IPL as well. Before this, Shashank played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shashank had gone unsold in the previous auction, but fate took a humourous turn as PBKS unintentionally welcomed him into their squad. As per reports, PBKS wanted to buy the 19-year-old Shashank Singh but ended up buying some other player.
It is pertinent to mention here that IPL regulation suggests that once the auction hammer goes down, the deal is sealed and it cannot be reversed.
How did fans react to PBKS blunder?
A user wrote, "Fantastic scenes here as the notoriously inept Punjab Kings manage to not only purchase a player they didn’t want, (Shashank Singh), they also admit to this in front of literally everyone. Singh we can guess is sat at home wondering whether to show up in March."
"Punjab Kings Bought the wrong Shashank Singh and openly said it to everyone," added one user.
