It has been more than 15 days since local body elections have been concluded but the five Municipal Corporations of Punjab that underwent polls are yet to get its Mayor. Five MCs went under polls on December 21, 2024, namely- Amritsar, Jalandhar, Phagwara, Ludhiana, and Patiala. In Jalandhar, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged out to be the single largest party after the Jalandhar MC Elections 2024 Results were announced. AAP secured 38 out of 85 wards but it missed the majority mark of 43. However, after a few days, many winning councillors from different parties joined AAP pushing the party to a majority mark which is essential for the Mayor's post.
Now, as per sources in the known development, AAP will field Vaneet Dhir as its Mayor candidate for Jalandhar. As per the information received, the oath taking ceremony is likely to take place on Saturday or Sunday i.e. January 11 or January 12. However, the AAP is yet to announce Vaneet Dhir as their Mayor candidate in Jalandhar.

Vaneet Dhir was among the top faces of AAP for the Jalandhar MC Elections 2024. He won from Ward Number 62 by more than 4000 votes. The AAP candidate defeated Congress's Sanjeev Dua quite comfortably. BJP candidate Balwinder Singh withdrew his nomination from Ward number 62.
