While India was still getting over the horrific Manipur women parade case, the gruesome murder of a Jain Monk named Kamkumar Nandi Maharaj has jolted the Jain community. As per reports, two people first electrocuted Kamkumar Nandi Maharaj, however, when they found him still breathing, they strangulated him with a towel. After being sure that the Jain Monk was dead, the killers carried his body on a bike about 25 KM away and then chopped his body into pieces in order to dispose them off in an open borewell. Not only this, in order to destroy the evidence, the killers also burnt the blood-soaked clothes of the deceased. The incident took place in Hirekodi village of the Belagavi district in Karnataka and the Jain monk murder case is now gaining national headlines as the community members are coming together to protest against the Siddaramaiah-led government for the CBI probe. For those who have missed the developments on Jain Monk Murder Case, below is everything you need to know-
Karnataka Jain Monk Murder Case-
Reportedly, the Karnataka Police have made two arrests in the case. The accused named Narayan Mali and Hassan Dalayath are currently on Police remand of seven days. At first, the Police requested the court to grant them 14 days of Police custody in order to prove the matter from various facets, however, they were granted only 7 days of remand. Furthermore, the state Police were expected to conduct a spot inquest at the ashram of the monk and also at the borewell where the body was dumped. However, the Jain monk murder case intensified when the jain community took to Jantar Mantar in protest against the State government demanding the matter to be sent for CBI investigation.
As the protest intensified National Commission For Minorities Chairman wrote to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah to hand over the investigation to an Inspector General of Police-level rank officer in order to "unearth the conspiracy" and arrest the real criminals. As per reports, National Commission For Minorities Chairman outlined that the ongoing investigation is an attempt to establish the Jain Monk Murder case as a "simple crime" for ransom or valuable property. As per commission Chairman Iqbal Singh Lalpura, the Jain community suspects that the investigation is being carried out in a 'hush hush' manner. The NCM chief further pointed out to the fact that the money and other valuable items could only have been kept in the ashram but there was no reason to kidnap and kill the saint, and hence there seems to be a bigger conspiracy to eliminate Jain sadhus.
