PCM in Class 12 is Not Mandatory for Admission in Architecture: AICTE has announced that now it will not be mandatory to study PCM in class 12th for admission in the Architecture course.
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has provided great relief to the candidates who are seeking admission to Engineering and Technology courses.
AICTE has announced that now PCM studies in class 12th will not be mandatory for admission to architecture courses. That is, for admission in AICTE architecture, Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics (PCM) etc. will no longer be compulsory subjects in class 12th.
With this, physics, chemistry and mathematics will no longer be compulsory subjects for admission to architecture or undergraduate courses in Architecture.
According to the approval process manual for 2022-23 released by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on Tuesday.
At the same time, the requirement of PCM in the other two courses Fashion Technology and Packaging Technology has also been done away with.
The technical education regulator had last year said that students who have not studied physics, chemistry or mathematics (PCM) in class 12 would still be able to take admitted to engineering and technology programmes.

A senior AICTE official said that we had constituted an expert committee to make recommendations on the admission process for which PCM i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Maths can be made optional subjects. Based on the recommendations of this panel, the above three courses have been chosen.
However, the subjects other than Physics, Chemistry and Maths which are eligible for admission to the above three courses are Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology, Biology, Informatics Practice, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subjects, Agriculture, Engineering Graphics, Business Studies and entrepreneurship etc.
Along with this, AICTE has also decided that from the upcoming academic session 2022-23, two additional seats per course will be reserved for COVID-orphans covered under the 'PM CARES' scheme in all affiliated polytechnic institutions.
AICTE's new approval process manual states that such children who have been issued a 'PM Cares Certificate' will be eligible for admission in polytechnic institutions under the supernumerary quota.
The scheme covers all children below the age of 18 years who have died due to COVID-19 between March 3, 2020, and February 28, 2022, by both parents, surviving parents, legal guardians or adoptive parents have lost.
