Amidst a concerning development for Google where Open AI’s ChatGPT was widely deliberated as the alternative to the mega tech giant in the future. The Alphabet-backed company launched its own AI-powered chatbot Bard months after ChatGPT’s release.
This was widely seen as Google’s move to ensure its positional consolidation in the segment to continue to dominate. However, things didn’t go as planned. In its very first demo, Bard made a factual error, which was noticed and called out. In addition to this, at Google's press conference held in Paris, a presenter couldn't go ahead with the demo due to the phone being misplaced.
Following these two major catastrophe developments, Alphabet lost over $100 million in market value. And near about a week later, the company’s employees flagged their concern on the matter and aren’t happy with the way Bard’s announcement was made and have gone on to term it, 'rushed, botched, and un-Googley'.
Criticizing Google CEO Sundar Pichai:
Based on the CNBC reports, Google employees are reprimanding their CEO Sundar Pichai over the manner of Bard’s announcement. American media houses reported several messages and memes they accessed that show Google employees expressing their disagreement over Bard on their forum Memegen.
The American media reported that employees are calling out the company's leadership, 'most notably the CEO Sundar Pichai'. The internal forum, which is usually a positive space full of fun and games has taken a serious route this week with employee dissatisfaction and embarrassment.
What is Bard’s factual error related to?
Last week, Google Bard was in the news for making a factual error in an advertisement which was aimed to promote the new AI Chatbot. In the ad shared by the company on its Twitter handle, Bard is asked to name a few discoveries associated with the James Webb Space Telescope.

And it was when the entire news got centred, in its response, Bard mentions in one of the points that the telescope took the very first pictures of a planet outside of our own solar system.
Bard’s answer to the query reads, "JWST took the very first pictures of a planet outside of our own solar system. These distant worlds are called "exoplanets." Exo means from outside.”
While as to NASA, the first image of an exoplanet was taken in the year 2004. The error by Google's Bard was reported by Reuters. The error in the video took the internet by storm right at the time when the company’s much-awaited press conference in Paris was on. At the live event in Paris, which was being live-streamed, a presenter walked on stage to give a demo of a new Lens feature.
Although the demo phone went missing from the event due to which the presented couldn’t go ahead with the presentation, however, despite the speaker tackling the situation with much grace, the entire scenario landed the company in embarrassment and people started wondering about Google’s insecurity over the coming of new players in the market. It didn’t end there the event’s video was later taken down by Google.
ChatGPT has caused a massive furor in the market causing the big existing players to lose their sleep over the revolution associated with AI setting in. Apart from Google, another tech major Microsoft also introduced a new version of its search engine, Bing, that uses the same technology as ChatGPT and will be focused on providing a better search experience.
