Peel Police officer Harinder Sohi, Harinder Sohi Khalistan protest, Sargent Harinder Sohi Khalistan Attack Brampton: Communal tensions are flaring up in Canada's Brampton ever since a Pro Khalistan mob attacked a Hindu Temple and assaulted devotees present in the temple premises. While Peel Police intervened and tried to stop the spread of the violence, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau had to break his silence after the video went viral. However, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau did not mention anything about Khalistan protestors and it even sparked even more outrage on social media. The controversy took a shocking turn when one of the protestors part of the Khalistani mob was identified as a Peel Police officer named Harinder Sohi.
After the massive outrage over the participation of a Canadian Police officer in a Khalistan protest against the Hindus, Canada suspended Harinder Sohi from his post, CBC confirmed this quoting officials of Peel Regional Police. Harinder Sohi was caught on camera holding Khalistan's flag. Sohi is posted as a sergeant in Peel Regional Police.
Peel Regional Police said that we have taken cognizance of the video viral on the internet, in which an off-duty policeman is seen actively participating in the protest outside the Hindu Sabha temple. Peel Police Media Relations Officer Richard Chin was quoted saying, "This policeman has been suspended after being found guilty of violating the Community Safety and Policing Act." He also said that the department is investigating the circumstances related to this incident and will share further information after the investigation is completed.
This incident came to light amid the attack on the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton by Khalistanis on Sunday. Fierce protesters carrying Khalistani flags clashed with the people of the Hindu community in the temple. They also disrupted a consular event organized by the temple administration and the Indian Consulate.
Donald Best, the former Toronto Police officer took to his X handle and wrote, "Suspended @PeelPolice Sergeant Harinder SOHI attended October 18, 2024 Khalistan protest in Toronto. Sgt Sohi held a sign calling for the shutdown of the High Commission of India in Ottawa. His fellow Khalistan separatists are chanting “Kill Modi Politics,” “Long Live Trudeau,” and “Long Live Khalistan” while desecrating the Indian flag and demanding the shutdown of all Indian consulates."
While talking to Times Now, Best said, "I really don't see how this will end any other way but with his (Harinder Sohi, Suspended Sergeant) resignation. The community would be outraged if this man is allowed to stay as a police officer."
