India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother passed away at 100 on Friday. She took her last breath at UN Mehta Hospital where she was admitted on Tuesday after complaining about breathlessness. PM Modi himself shared the news of his mother’s demise through a tweet.
Heeraben Modi was not much seen with her son during public appearances or events when PM Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat or when he came India’s PM. She always stayed away from being in the limelight. The reason for same was revealed by his son during her 100th birthday interview.
PM Modi during an interview said that his mother is not very fond of coming into public’s eye which is why many people have not seen her with PM during any government or public events. He said that according to her values a person should just keep doing their duties instead of thinking of becoming famous. Till now, PM Modi’s mother Heeraben was only seen with him twice. One when in Sri Nagar’s Lal Chowk, he hoisted the National Flag, there was a felicitation ceremony in Ahmedabad when his mother was also present on the stage. The second was when he for the first time became the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Heeraben Modi was present there during his oath-taking ceremony. After these two events, she did not appear in any public event.
PM Modi said that when he became the Prime Minister, he called his mother to stay with him and she did for some time. As time passed, she told PM Modi that thewas is no point in wasting time for me. She further added that she did not feel contended living there. PM Modi said that her mother always wanted to go back to her village and live there peacefully. He also said that at a certain point in time he felt really bad as he was not able to give time to his family. After becoming the Prime Minister, he used to come back by 12 at the night and his mother used to wait for him which made him guilty. Soon, after which she left Delhi and went back to Gandhinagar.
PM Modi used to visit his mother in Gandhinagar and spend a full day with her from seeking blessings from her to eating food from her hand.
