On Saturday, 7th September, Iranian athlete Sadegh Beit Sayah got disqualified from the men's javelin throw F41 final at the Paris Paralympics. In the final round of men’s javelin throw, Sadegh set a record of 47.64 meters in order to be at the top position of the tally. But unfortunately, he got disqualified after setting this record and securing first place. Sadegh missed out on winning the gold medal at the Paralympics. As Sadegh got disqualified, eventually Indian athlete Navdeep Singh’s silver medal was upgraded to the gold medal.
Navdeep Singh’s Silver Medal Upgrade reason
Sadegh had violated rule 8.1 of the World Para Athletics Rules and Regulations including the Code of Conduct and Ethics. The 8.1 rule of the World Para Athletics Rules and Regulations Code of Conduct states that “World Para Athletics is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and conduct in the sport of Para athletics. All participants in the sport, including athletes, coaches, officials, and administrators, have a responsibility to uphold these standards and ensure that the sport is conducted in a fair, honest, and transparent manner.”
Sadegh Beit Sayah Disqualification Reason
After setting the record of 47.64 meters, Sadegh secured the first position at the Paralympics. He and his team had even started preparing to celebrate his victory, with his family cheering him from the stand. However, the celebrations stopped when Sadegh and his team were informed about his disqualification because of the violation of rules.
The exact reason for Sadegh’s disqualification is not yet revealed by the Paris Paralympics committee. However, fans are guessing that Sadegh’s act of displaying a black flag with Arabic text written in red colour during the competition at the Paralympics can be the cause of his disqualification. His disqualification took the gold medal away from him.
After the Iranian athlete, Sadegh Beit Sayah got disqualified because of violating the rules, Indian athlete Navdeep Singh’s silver medal was upgraded to gold medal. Navdeep had secured second position in men's javelin throw F41 and had won the silver medal with 47.32 meters. But after the disqualification of Sadegh by the Paralympics regulatory committee, Navdeep got a surprising yet celebrated victory as his silver medal got turned into the gold medal.
