After the murder of Sidhu Moosewala, the Mann government is under immense pressure due to the deteriorated law and order situation in the state. Four major incidents have raised questions about the functioning of Punjab Police and Intelligence.
Murder of Kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambiya
International Kabaddi player Sandeep Singh or best known as Sandeep Nangal Ambiya was shot dead by five unidentified assailants during a Kabaddi match in the Malhian village of Jalandhar on March 14, 2022, at around 6 pm.
Mohali grenade attack
An explosion took place in the Intelligence Headquarters Building of Punjab Police at Sector 77, Mohali at 7:45 pm. The grenade struck in front of the police recruiting center on the second floor of the intelligence wing. The attack was carried out with a rocket launcher.
Patiala violence
The recent clash in Patiala outside the Kali Mata temple took place when members of the Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) launched the 'Khalistan Murdabad March'. Some Sikh activists announced another march against that march. As a result, swords were hurled at each other, stones were hurled and police fired in the air. Four people were injured in the incident. Fortunately, the situation was quickly brought under control, although the administration imposed a curfew and shut down the Internet. And soon the accused were arrested.
Murder of Sidhu Moosewala
In village Jawaharke, unidentified persons opened fire on Sidhu Moosewala and murdered him. Two of Sidhu's friends were injured in the attack. Sidhu was on his way to his aunt's house. During which they were surrounded and attacked. Meanwhile, Sidhu's gunmen were not with him nor did they take the bulletproof Fortuner vehicle with them. Sidhu himself was driving the Thar Jeep. Just, one day ago his murder his security was reduced.
Where do the weapons come from?
The weapons used in these incidents are those used by terrorists. A rocket launcher is a weapon used only by terrorists in Afghanistan. In addition, the AN-94 weapon was used in the assassination of Sidhu Musewala. Questions are also being raised as to where the gangsters got such weapons from?
Mann's government may change Punjab's DGP
Pressure is mounting on the government over the criminal incidents taking place in Punjab. Now here the question arises, will the Punjab Government change DGP? Although, it is not easy. But the AAP government is known for taking big decisions. If the Mann government can dismiss its minister, then the DGP is not a big deal for them.
When Capt. Amarinder Singh of the Congress party was removed, Charanjit Singh Channi was made the Chief Minister of Punjab, that time Dinkar Gupta was removed from the post of DGP of Punjab, and IPS Sahota was given the command. After this Chattopadhyay was given this responsibility and later according to the UPSC panel VK Bhawra was appointed to the post of DGP.
The current DGP of Punjab is VK Bhawra. After some of these names are at the top. Another name is Prabodh Gupta who has been questioned by the present Head of Intelligence on his modus operandi. IPS Sahota (1998 batch) who is currently serving as Special DGP (PAP) is also going to retire in August. Sanjeev Kalra is the Special DGP Railways. Prayag Jain is on deputation at the (1998 Batch) Center. It is also reported that if the 1992 batch officers are promoted then many key names may come up.
