With the concerted efforts of the district administration to enroll and benefit specially abled persons, Jalandhar has become a leading district in Punjab which has issued maximum Unique Disability Identity Cards (UDID) in the state.
Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori today said that the administration had received as many as 3510 applications on the portal of which a total of 3134 UDID cards have successfully been generated in the district, which is the highest number in the state tally.
The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that the district would continue to maintain this pace and emerge as a leading district in issuing UDID cards in the state. He further mentioned that the directions were passed to the nodal agency i.e. health department to initiate a special drive to enroll and issue UDID cards to specially-abled persons.
Thori said that the health department was told to set up one camp in each Community-Primary Health Centre of the district and create awareness among the general public about camps in advance through Municipal Councillors/Sarpanchs/Asha workers so that the specially-abled persons can take maximum benefit of the schemes.
He asked them to ensure enrolment of 500 specially-abled persons daily through the camps and he has personally been reviewing the progress of the enrolment and card generation task. He said that weaker sections were an integral part of our society and reinforced his commitment to leave no stone unturned to provide them with all the necessary assistance. The deputy commissioner said that it was our duty to help the specially-abled persons have basic facilities equal employment opportunities to that of others.
He appealed to all specially-abled persons to bring their Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, or any proof of age, passport size photograph, and others for enrollment for UDID cards. The Deputy Commissioner said that UDID cards can also be applied at Sewa Kendras and online personally.
Divulging more, he said that a panel of experts like orthopedics, ENT and EYE specialists, psychiatrist, pediatrics, and others physically examine the applicants every Tuesday and Thursday before issuing a disability certificate.
Nodal Officer UDID scheme Dr. Anu said UDID cards would be bearing a Quick Response (QR) code that helps in verifying the credentials of specially-abled persons.
