Under the patronage of CM Hemant Soren, Jharkhand is convening its first ever ‘Tribal Mahotsav’ since it was carved out from united Bihar in 2000. The national-level tribal fest has been inaugurated by the JMM patriarch and former CM Sibhu Soren in Ranchi’s Mohrabadi ground.
The two-day fest is attended by tribes from all over the country with the presentation of their culture in various forms of dance, music, handicrafts, arts, painting, food, and dress with a dedicated fashion show event.
At the inaugural meet, Hemant Soren highlighted his concern at length over the current state of the tribal in India. His apprehensions loomed over the threat of land and culture to the deprived section of society.
He said, “Our language, culture, and heritage is our identity and we are committed to preserving this by all means. Today whatever is with us, wherever we stand today is just because of the sacrifices our ancestors have made, we are indebted to their blessings. We intend to work for the development of the nation and our society by all possible means.”
During his address, he launched welfare schemes and programs for the tribal population. Soren even appealed to the central government to declare 9th August as a public holiday nationwide and asked to make future generations aware of the contribution and rich history of tribal society.
The two-day event coincides with ‘World Tribal Day. The event marked its start with performances from hundreds of Nagada (a huge drum) artists performing to the tune of their cultural representation coming from various parts of the country.
The event is also commemorating the sacrifices and contributions of tribal leaders to mankind and the importance of their work for the empowerment of tribes in the nation. The inaugural day of the festival is loaded with cultural representations of tribes from the North East, West Bengal, and Odisha.
Seminars on Tribal history, literature, and anthropology are attended by intellectuals from the tribal society. While speaking at the inaugural ceremony Hemant Soren also made it clear about the inauguration of this event every year with efforts of making it grander every consecutive year.
The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh will be gracing the event tomorrow as the chief guest of the event's closing ceremony.
