In a tragic road accident outside Shri Devi Talab Mandir in Jalandhar, a woman has been brutally killed by a speeding SUV. The SUV struck her while she was crossing the road. This entire incident including the woman’s last moments has been captured in the CCTV footage. Theses footage has surfaced on social media late on Tuesday night. The woman has been identified as Ria, who was a resident of Neelamahal. She had recently moved to a rented house near Gopal Nagar. Her young child, who was with her, has fortunately survived the incident. She had visited the temple in order to seek blessings for her NRI husband.
The CCTV footage shows the moments leading up to the accident. Around 12:40 am, Ria, who had just finished her prayers outside the closed temple, was seen crossing the road to approaching to a beggar resting on the roadside. While she was crossing the road, an SUV that was coming from Doaba Chowk at high speed, struck her. The SUV ran over her in a brutal manner and escaped from the crime scene. The viral CCTV footage clearly showed that the SUV driver made no attempt to stop or assist victim.
Sub-Inspector Baljit Singh of Division Number 8 police station has stated that they had received information about the accident late Tuesday night. According to the police report, Ria had died on the spot and the driver of the SUV, after hitting her, continued driving towards the Tanda railway crossing area. The driver did not even stop for a moment after hitting the woman. The police then immediately reached the scene and took Ria’s body into custody and sent it to the civil hospital for post-mortem examination.
During the accident, Ria was not alone. She was with her son, her brother, and a family friend, who were waiting across the road. They had gone out for dinner and the accident occurred when Ria stepped forward to give charity. Her family is devastated by this tragedy and has described the incident as occurring in a flash. This incident had left them in shock.
The SUV car involved in the accident had the registration number 4559 and police are now actively using the CCTV footage and other technical resources to find the accused driver. Sub-Inspector Baljit Singh has assured that the police will soon arrest the driver.
