A woman stabbed her six-year-old son to death with a kitchen knife as she thought that her son loved his grandparents more than her in Shahkot town of Jalandhar district, said police officials on Wednesday.
The mother, Kulwinder Kaur (30), attempted suicide after killing her only child (Arshpreet Singh) by jumping off the rood of her double-storeyed house at Sohal Jagir village in Shahkot sub-division on Monday night but survived.
As per the information acquired from the deputy superintendent of police Piara Singh, Kulwinder Kaur has sustained several injuries and is undergoing treatment in Jalandhar's private hospital. Reportedly, she is out of danger.
Kaur's husband has moved to Italy for work. She lived here along-with her in-laws and son but, her relations with her mother-in-law, Charanjit Kaur, were not so good.
The DSP, however, said Kaur was angry with her son over spending more time with his grandparents, especially his grandmother.
According to the statement recorded by Avtar Singh, grandfather of deceased, "After dinner on Monday, the child went to his grandparents. His anguished mother took him to her room and stabbed him twice with the kitchen knife. The grandparents rushed to the room on hearing Arshpreet’s cries. Shocked to see him bleeding, they rushed him to hospital but he died on the way. Kulwinder told them that she had killed her child,” said Shahkot station house officer Sukhwinder Singh.
Following this, Kulwinder holding a knife ran towards her in-laws to kill but, they somehow escaped. Shen then jumped off the roof of the house to commit suicide but sustained injuries.
A case of murder was registered against her at the Shahkot police station.
