The name of the country that is witnessing a sharp rise in pleasure marriage trend is Indonesia. As per Los Angeles Times, Pleasure marriage has now become a profession in Indonesia. Especially women living in rural areas become a part of this practice. Some women's families pressure them to do pleasure marriage for the greed of money, while some women voluntarily adopt this profession. There are brokers in Indonesia who introduce tourists to women of their choice and then get them married.
It is pertinent to mention here that pleasure marriage is completely banned in Indonesia, but due to the lack of any strict law against it, it continues unabated. A woman named Cahaya shared her ordeal while talking to a news portal.
Cahaya reveald that she had a pleasure marriage for the first time at the age of 17. Her first marriage was with her school friend at the age of 13, and they also had a daughter. But when Cahaya turned 17, her grandparents chose a 50-year-old Saudi Arabian tourist for her, who was looking for a bride for some time. In return, she got 850 dollars (about Rs 70,000).
Cahaya has had more than 15 pleasure marriages so far. However, some of her marriages were extremely difficult. Once, a Saudi Arabian man asked her to move in with him for a few days and promised to give her $2000 as dowry and $500 every month. However, when she reached there, her condition worsened. The man treated her extremely badly and did not even give her money. Somehow she escaped from there and returned to her country.
