Art is an excellent way to express our ideas and thoughts, it also helps an individual to cope with stress. At this time especially when people are forced to stay inside the house, art can help them to survive in this tense phase. This day is UNESCO dedicated day, the day was declared by the International Association of Art (IAA), a partner of UNESCO. The main purpose of the day is to create awareness and promote creative activities worldwide.
The day marks the celebration of art, not only fine art but all form of art. This day brings all artists together from all directions of the world. World Art Day is celebrated online as well, especially by Google projects.
History of World Art Day
World Art Day is celebrated on 15 April 2021, to honor the artist, Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday. He was the one who brought the revolution in the world of art, he is also considered the greatest maestro of all times be it art, science, or technology. According to IAA, Da Vinci was a symbol of world peace, freedom of expression, tolerance, and brotherhood.
In the General Assembly of 2012, IAA decided to dedicate a day to art. The yearly celebration of World Art Day was commenced in the year 2012 and in the USA the day was the first time celebrated in the City of Los Angles in 2015.
Theme: World Art Day 2021
The theme for World Art Day is set by IAA. This year, celebrations of 6th International World Art Day will include a virtual exhibition on the theme ‘You’re Not Alone. Keeping in mind today’s situation the USA, host of World Art Day 2021 for the consecutive sixth year, has found out a unique virtual way of celebrating the day. As mentioned by IAA/USA’s official website, World Health Day will be celebrated from homes by connecting with other artists on social media like Instagram and Facebook, it is a unique way of exhibiting and promoting the art and artist.
