Every year, On 26th September, the World health environment day is celebrated all across the world. This day aims to raise awareness about the connection between the human health and the environment. It reminds people that their well-being is directly connected to the environment. It makes us recall that the quality of the environment we live in, has a huge influence on our mental and physical health. Industrial practices have an huge affect on the environment and they often damage it, but then there are start-ups that have focused on the environment and have taken a step to save it. 

Here's a list of Top 5 Indian Eco-Friendly Start-ups:

  • Ather Energy: This startup manufactures electrical scooters and aims to reduce the air pollution by promoting sustainable mobility. This startup was founded by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain in 2013.  It is headquartered in Bangalore. The International Council of Clean Transport (ICCT) report stated that the carbon emissions over the lifecycle of an electric scooter is 38 percent less in comparison to a 110cc ICE scooter. These electric scooters have zero tailpipe emission which makes them eco-friendly and this distinguish these scooters from traditional scooters. The new factory of this startup has an annual capacity of 110,000 scooters and 120,000 battery packs. The company is established in 27 cities across 15 states of India.
  • Phool: This Indian startup converts water hyacinth into a ‘Phoolqir’ which is a biodegradable material and is used to create sustainable products like candles and incense. This startup uses the flowers found in temples all across the country and produces useful as well as sustainable products like rose incense cone and Phool vermicompost. The start-up was co- founded by Ankit Agarwal and Prateek Kumar in 2017. Currently, it holds the record of recycling 11,060 metric tonnes of temple waste. Phool provides charcoal-free organic incense sticks, Essential oils, Organic Gulaal and other festival products like Holi, Rakhi and Diwali hampers. All of these products are made in an eco-friendly manner.
  • BluSmart: It is a ride-sharing start-up founded by Anmol Singh Jaggi, Punit K Goyal and Puneet Singh Jaggi in 2019. The company has launched multiple Electric vehicles including Mahindra e-Verito, Tata e-Tigor, Tata Xpres-T EV, Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS Electric. It is the first all-electric shared smart mobility platform in India. The company is headquartered in Gurugram, India. On the occasion of World Environment day 2022, Tata Motors had signed an MoU with BluSmart to deliver 10,000 Electrical vehicles. The company aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to provide a sustainable transportation option.
  • Nexus Power: It is an Indian Start-up that uses agricultural leftovers to manufacture manufactures rechargeable, bio-organic, and bio-degradable batteries. These batteries take less time to get charged and last for a longer in comparison of other batteries. It helps to reduce dependence on harmful chemicals. It is founded by Nishita Baliarsingh and Nikita Baliarsingh. This start-up is established in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. The founders aim to make the transportation based on renewable and biodegradable energy using sustainable energy innovation.
  • Just Organik: It is a start-up owned by Treta Agro, dedicated to provide safe and healthy organic food through sustainable farming practices and also prioritize the welfare of the farmers. It was founded by Pankaj Agarwal and Richa Agarwal in 2013. It provides organic pulses, millets, spices, ready to eat and ready to cook food. Just Organik encourages and supports farmers to adopt organic farming methods that results in increased cost savings of 10-15 percent.
