Every year January 10 is celebrated as World Hindi Day. This day is observed to promote the Hindi language at the global level.
Young generations prefer to speak English and give less importance to Hindi language. To make Hindi part of public opinion, we celebrate this day.
History
The first World Hindi Conference was held in the year 1975 in Nagpur, Maharashtra. 122 representatives from 30 countries participated in this event. To mark this day, Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh announced to celebrate January 10 as World Hindi Day in 2006.
Significance
This day is celebrated to promote the Hindi language globally. Its purpose is to create awareness about Hindi language. On this day, Indian embassies abroad organize events. Lectures are delivered in Hindi language.
World Hindi Day is different from National Hindi Diwas
World Hindi Day is not the same as National Hindi Diwas. We celebrate World Hindi Day globally on January 10 whereas; Hindi Diwas is celebrated on 14 September. Although the objective behind celebrating this day is similar, that is, to respect and honour the Hindi language but on different dates.
