In a tragic development, an 11-year-old boy died after a toy train in Chandigarh's Elante Mall lost control and overturned, smashing the boy headfirst into the floor. The deceased, identified as Shahbaaz (11), resident of Nawanshehr, was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on Sunday at 4 AM. As per reports the police have seized the toy train.
On the complaint of the deceased’s father Jatinderpal Singh, the Industrial Area Police Station has registered a case of negligence against the toy train operator Saurabh, resident of Bapu Dham, and the company owners. Jatinderpal, resident of Nawanshahr, told the police that he had come to Chandigarh on Saturday with his 2 children, wife and cousin Navdeep's family. At around 8 pm on Saturday night, both the family members reached Elante Mall for sightseeing and shopping.
After seeing the toy train on the ground floor inside the mall, Shahbaz and Navdeep's son started asking for a ride. Jatinder and Navdeep agreed and gave 400 rupees for the ride of both the children, but the operator did not give any receipt. Shahbaz and the other child sat in the last compartment of the toy train. Operator Saurabh started moving the train around on the ground floor to give the children a ride.
Police has handed over the body to the family after postmortem and seized CCTV footage from inside Elante Mall. The footaged showed the child trying to get out of the toy train. Investigation revealed that only 2 children were sitting in the toy train. The father alleges that this accident happened due to negligence.
