Yellow Alert issued in Punjab: Expected rain and strong winds on 17-18 April

The majority of cities in Punjab have already crossed 35-degree Celsius temperature, causing discomfort and health issues to the residents. However, relief seems to be on the way as the weather department predicts rain and strong winds in the coming days. In anticipation of the upcoming weather, the weather department has issued a Yellow Alert in Punjab.

The state has been divided into four regions by the weather department- Majha, Doaba, West Malwa, and East Malwa. The weather department predicts that there are chances of rain in Majha and Doaba on 16th April. Meanwhile, on 17-18 April, the entire Punjab is expected to receive rainfall. The Yellow Alert has been issued from 16th to 18th April, and there are possibilities of rain in most parts of Punjab until 20th April.

While the rainfall might bring relief from the heatwave, it may also cause damage to crops due to strong winds. The weather department has warned that winds with a speed of 30-40 km per hour may occur during this period.

The farmers in Punjab have already faced significant losses due to unseasonal rain earlier. The rain has caused a considerable damage to crops and reduced the size of wheat grains. In response to the situation, even though the central government has accepted to purchase wheat from farmers but has lowered down the prices on which they will buy the wheat.

The farmers are currently struggling to cope with the situation and fear further damage due to the upcoming weather. The authorities have urged the farmers to take precautionary measures to avoid any significant losses.
