Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has recommended a CBI probe into the Hathras incident. The decision came after a high-level meeting of the concerned officials.
Earlier on Saturday, DGP H.C. Awasthi and additional Chief Secretary (Home) Avanish Awasthi had visited the family of the 19-year-old girl who had succumbed to assault injuries at a Delhi hospital earlier this week.
About The Incident
A 19-year-old Dalit girl from Uttar Pradesh has been allegedly gang raped by four upper caste men who also have tried to strangulate her and cut off her tongue.
The girl has been admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) in Aligarh medical college. She managed to give her statement to the police days after the incident and has stated that she was raped by four upper caste men on September 14 when she had gone to collect fodder for animals.
Earlier, based on her brother's complaint, the police had booked a man identified as Sandeep for attempt to murder and under the provisions of the SC/ST Act. The accused was arrested and remanded to judicial custody after the family alleged that he had tried to kill the girl over some old enmity.
There was fresh controversy in the case with family members of the woman claiming that the Uttar Pradesh Police forcibly creamated her in the early hours of the day. The police and Hathras administration denied these allegations.

Yesterday, In a major decision, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday suspended Superintendent of Police, Hathras, Vikrant Veer and four other local policemen for alleged dereliction of duty in the events that led to the death of a 19-year-old woman and then her hasty cremation in the dead of the night in absence of her family members.
Others who have been suspended include Circle officer Ram Shabd, Inspector Dinesh Kumar Verma, Sub-Inspector Jagveer Singh and head constable Mahesh Pal
