Meta-owned social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and threads were reported to be having server issues on Tuesday evening. Users took to X to complain about several connectivity issues including being automatically logged out. Some were unable to log in again, while some reported that the platform couldn’t refresh the page. Many users were also asked to change passwords.
Outage tracking website Downdetector.com also revealed that Meta Platforms' Facebook and Instagram were down for tens of thousands of users on Tuesday. There were more than 300,000 reports of outages for Facebook, while there were more than 20,000 reports for Instagram, according to the website which tracks outages by collating status reports from several sources, including users.
Users were quick to X to share their opinions on the "server" shutdown, with a parody account Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying "Chill Guys. Wait few minutes everything will be solved".
More details are awaited.
