In the WHO report released on Wednesday, it has been said that globally there was a decline in new cases of coronavirus infection in the last week, while the cases of death due to infection have registered an increase of more than 40 per cent.
In its weekly report on the epidemic, the United Nations Health Agency said that there has been a decrease in new cases of infection everywhere, including the WHO's Western Pacific region, where cases have been increasing since the end of December.
According to the report, last week around one crore new cases of COVID-19 were reported worldwide and 45,000 patients died. However, there was a 23 per cent reduction in the number of deaths reported last week.
According to the WHO, the reason for the increase in the death of COVID-19 patients last week was due to changes in the process of registering such cases in Chile and the US.
Apart from this, Maharashtra in India also registered an increase in the death toll with the addition of more than 4,000 death cases as earlier this number was not classified as COVID-19 death.
