Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has reportedly made an objectionable statement about NDA's presidential hopeful Draupadi Murmu, after which a BJP leader has filed a complaint against him. On Friday, the Hyderabad Police said that it would soon register a criminal case against the filmmaker.

Narayan Reddy has claimed in his complaint that the film director (Ram Gopal Varma) has made objectionable remarks about Draupadi Murmu on the social media platform Twitter. Abids Police Inspector B Prasad Rao said, 'We have received the complaint and we have sent it for a legal opinion. After getting a legal opinion, we will register a case against Verma under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Ram Gopal Varma has said on Twitter, 'If Draupadi is the President, then who will be the Pandavas? And most importantly, who will be the Kauravas. In his complaint, Reddy has said, "Varma's remarks on Twitter are highly derogatory to a senior woman politician and former Governor of Jharkhand. The BJP leader has submitted the tweet along with the complaint to the police as evidence.
He has demanded that the police register a case under the SC / ST Act and give the strictest punishment to the director. Police have said that necessary action will be taken after getting a legal opinion. BJP MLA from Goshamahal T Raja Singh has also condemned the statement of Ram Gopal Varma. Raja Singh has said that the director has tweeted in a state of intoxication. He said, 'Varma always wants to be in the news by making such objectionable remarks.'
Filmmaker clarified
Raja Singh has demanded the police register a criminal case against Varma. He has said that such remarks against Murmu are most unfortunate and unfair.
However, later the filmmaker also clarified his comment. He has said, 'The purpose of this Twitter post was not to hurt anyone's sentiments. This was said as a satire. Draupadi is my favourite character in Mahabharat but this name is so rare that I remembered the respective characters and it was my expression. There was no intention to hurt anyone's sentiments by this.
Draupadi Murmu filed her nomination paper a day earlier on Friday itself in the presence of senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Modi addressed the Returning Officer P.C. and Handed over Murmu's nomination papers to Modi. Senior BJP leaders Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, J.P. Nadda, Chief Ministers of several states and leaders of allies were also present.
