Bollywood queen Kangana
Ranaut has released the first teaser of her directorial epic, ‘Emergency’,
where she is portraying former PM, Indira Gandhi, and her tales during, what
many consider to be the darkest hour of Indian Democracy, The Emergency. In the
teaser launched earlier in the day, Kangana can be seen donning the persona of the
former PM, with her spectacles and the cotton saree that epitomize one of Indira’s
characteristics. It will be too early to
say, how Kangana will fare with the role of the dynamic leader, Indira what she
has been throughout her life.
Kangana wrote while sharing the clip on her Instagram
handle, “Presenting ‘Her’, who was called ‘Sir’ #Emergency shoot begins.” In the
video, Kangana can be seen responding to her secretary over the question the
latter asks whether she would like to be addressed as ‘Mam’ by US president
Richard Dixon, in place of the usual ‘Sir’. She said, “Ok, it is fine, but tell
the US president that she is addressed as ‘Sir’ in her office.”
Kangana and the history of
Controversies:
The queen has remained in controversies every now and
then. Her over-aggressive attitude toward dealing with criticism and her own
version of personifying things whether be it religion, social issues, or
nationalism has landed her in trouble several times. Her account was suspended
permanently from Twitter owning to these continuous violations of ethics and
parameters set by the Twitter community. The controversies are not just limited
to her social life, rather have entered her professional space affecting her
career badly.
‘Dhaakad’ – A catastrophe in
her career
Her latest film ‘Dhaakad’ has been among the top worst
films, which hardly managed to accumulate Rs 2.58 Crores which was made at an
estimated budget of Rs 85 Crores. But this development was no big surprise for
those who have known Kangana and the problems she has been surrounded by. It
was her 9th flop in a row, after her super hit ‘Tanu Weds Manu
Returns’ she has catastrophically failed in almost every single film. After 4
successive flops, ‘Manikarnika – The queen of Jhansi’ was released, it was
believed that this would do some good to get her filming career back on track,
but to no avail. ‘Manikarnika’ did an average show and failed to meet what was minimally
expected from the biography.
Will ‘Emergency’ melt people’s
opinion toward the Queen?
Now since it is clearly evident by now, how her social
life conduct and controversy have affected the audience’s imagination of her,
especially among Millennials. Has Kangana done enough to get rid of that image
is a question she needs to ponder upon? ‘Dhaakad’ is now registered among the
worst movies of all time, as per the Box-Office collection. She hasn’t lost hope
and is fighting continuously to earn back what she has lost over the series of
controversies that have tarnished her image and adversely affected her
professional life. ‘Emergency’ seems to be a good approach for her in providing
a story that will attract people. But the question that still remains, is how
far she will justify her role in the act of personifying one of the most ‘Powerful
Women of the time’. The time will tell.
