Controversy and Indian cinema go hand in hand. Whether it is about a particular individual or any infamous event, many movies get mired in controversy that can eventually work for or against it.

So was the year 2022 for Indian Cinema, alongside producing some of the top hits, the industry of cinema has equally remained in the frame owing to the release of some controversial movies involving big names.

Inspired by a Hollywood hit movie, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chadha arguably will top the chart of the most controversial release of the year after suffering a series of boycotts majorly against Aamir’s old remarks.

Akshay Kumar yet again played the male savior in Rakshabandhan, while the movie was women-centric. With Kanika Dhillon’s old tweets being resurfaced, the movie got caught by the boycott trend.

Based on one of the most horrific incidents in India in the recent past, the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits, ‘The Kashmir Files’ remained a lot in new as the critics labeled it as pure propaganda.

After much of a ruckus Kantara finally was released on OTT, however, the movie’s main song Varaha Roopam ran into copyright issues and was initially scrapped from the OTT version before it was eventually brought back in.

Akshay Kumar’s starrer Laxmii ran into trouble for depicting the transgender community in a poor light - eventually, the makers also had to change the project's name to Laxmii from Laxmmi Bomb after several objections.

The Ayan Mukerji-directed magnum opus Brahmastra starring real-life couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt ran into trouble when it showed Ranbir's character entering a temple wearing a pair of shoes.

Vijay Deverkonda-led Liger remained in a number of controversies including its problematic lyrics of Aafat and the female lead character of Balamani that demeaned its portrayal.
